This is a powder mix that is easy to mix. Packets of the powder make great gifts for newbies. The resulting juice is equivalent to the juice made with eGoo. -- Edward Spiegel

Bubble Power Powder Mix[]

Makes 2 quarts plus 1/2 cup bubble juice when mixed as directed.

  • J-Lube. The amount needed depends on the potency of your J-Lube. For full-potency J-Lube use 0.5 grams J-Lube (a bit less than 1/4 tsp, but measuring by weight is best)). If your J-Lube has degraded, use 2.0 grams (a bit less than 1 tsp but measuring by weight is best). (I personally prefer degraded J-Lube). Adjust the amount of J-Lube to suit your preference.
  • 0.5 grams citric acid (a little less than 1/8 tsp but measuring by weight is best as too much will render the bubble juice ineffective).

I make packets of the powder mix and keep them in the freezer to keep them stable as J-Lube loses its potency over time at room temperature.

2015 Bubble Power Powder Instructions

WHAT YOU NEED[]

  • 8-12 ounce glass for mixing detergent and bubble powder.
  • A container that holds more than 2 quarts. I use a 2.5 liter mixing bowl that I also use as my dipping container.
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) measuring spoon
  • Fork
  • Measuring cups: 1/2 cup measuring cup and 1 cup measuring cup or a graduated measuring cup.
  • 6 tablespoons (which is 3 ounces or 90 ml) Dawn Pro or equivalent detergent.
  • 8 cups (64 fluid ounces) water.

DIRECTIONS[]

  • Put powder in a dry cup or glass that holds at least 8 ounces (a little larger is preferable)
  • Add one tablespoon (15 ml.) detergent.
  • Stir with a fork to make a lumpless paste (called a slurry).
  • Add one more tablespoon detergent and stir.

Add four more tablespoons of the detergent and stir until uniform.

  • Stir detergent mix and gradually stir in 1/2 cup warm water.
  • Stir for a couple to a few minutes. It will take a little while before the viscosity starts to build. Once it does, you should continue stirring.The viscosity will build for a few minutes as you stir. The polymer does not actually dissolve in water but forms a suspension. The polymer used is a very high molecular weight version of polyethylene oxide that contains MILLIONS of atoms per molecule. As you stir the molecules swell and unfurl. The detergent/polymer/water mix will be gooey (some might say snot like) if you raise the fork out strings of the detergent/polymer mixture will adhere to the fork.
  • Measure out 7.5 cups water into the large container.
  • Add the goo mix to the water and gently stir till uniform.

You may use this right away, but many people feel that it improves if left over night.

NOTE: The recipe results in a water to detergent ratio of 21.3:1.
