Recipe used by Gary, during his GWR attempt

Hello fellow bubble heads!  I've been meaning to post this for quite a while now and since there doesn't seem to be any shortage of requests for the recipe, here goes...  For the record (no pun intended) this is the concentrate that I sent to Gary Pearlman, for use during his (successful) Guinness World Record attempt.  It resulted in the creation of his monstrous "largest free floating" outdoor bubble, which measured nearly 3400 cu. ft!

Ingredients:

4 cups Dawn Professional, Manual Pot and Pan Detergent

1 g. PEO (WSR 301)

2 teaspoons 91% isopropyl alcohol (chilled in the freezer)

1 oz. (Measured by volume, not weight) Surgilube

I started with the detergent in my mixing container, slurried the PEO with the alcohol and stirred that into it, then …

Attaching your loop to modified fishing poles.

I've been meaning to write this entry for close to a year now.

I've never seen anyone attach their loops quite the same way I do.  I've seen a lot of people asking about materials that dont snag or rust, and each time, I've thought to myself "jeez, I really need to add a blog about this!"  So, here it is...

If you're using modified crappie poles, or other light weight fishing rods, chances are you've had to (like me) remove the thinnest end section of the pole, because it's just too flimsy.  This, of course, leaves you with nothing but a hollow tube at the end of your poles.  I've seen that a few people have used cable ties to attach a metal clip or a swivel etc. to the end section of similar poles, however, I wanted to make mine so that the…

A few notes about guar gum powder

Last Spring (or late Winter, maybe?) when I requested a sample of sodium alginate from Tic Gums, I perused the website and saw that they also offered several different types of industrial grade guar gum powder.  After speaking with their live chat customer service person, I chose two that she felt might work well for bubble juice and requested samples of those as well.

I was working on the waterless guar concentrate at the time, pretty much to the point of obsession.  It was early on in the trials, before I'd stopped adding baking powder to the recipe so, I mixed up two test batches (one of each sample I'd ordered) labeled the bottles with their contents, wrote the date on them and then promptly set them on a shelf in the "bubble cabinet" i…

my most recent build - KIB moat

Inspired by Francois's recent tip, about using a kiddie pool for a mold to make a KIB moat, I decided to try building one in a similar fashion.  Instead of an inflatable pool, however, I build my reverse mold using a pair of foam pool noodles, taped together at both ends, to create a circle, which I then wrapped in cellophane (for easy release) and then covered with three layers of drywall tape. I set the wrapped noodles on top of a 38x38" piece of compressed 1/8" hardboard from Home Depot and used liquid fiberglass resin (applied with a 2" paint brush) to cover the noodles. I used three layers, allowing each one several hours to fully dry before applying the next.  Once i felt satisfied that the fiberglass was sturdy enough, I used a drem…
